Kim was raised in the country and taught at an early age how to be prepared for most any emergency. She learned how to forage, raised poultry and game birds, pigs and goats, as well as fruit, vegetables, herbs and edible flowers.
Specializing in working with the more inexperienced and beginners, Kim has taught workshops in many of her fields, including simple cooking basics, preserving basics, herb basics, chickens, art and Early American crafts, including simple soap making, potpourri, stenciling and chair caning.
When a barn accident made it difficult to do all the homestead work that she had previously done, Kim turned...quite accidentally....to writing. She is the author of a number of food and animal articles, as well as the author of the popular Backyard Farming series, published by Hatherliegh Press, and available on line as well as your local book stores. Also specializing now in the preservation of the agriculture, food and architecture history of the South, with emphasis on Florida, Kim is working on a book about a surprising part of Florida's food history. She decided to write "Practical Prepping at Home", after witnessing the panic and empty shelves during the Covid 19 issues. The e book will be distributed, on line, free of charge. It is her 14th book. She is also working on development of 2 TV shows and streaming.
Many of her pets have been rescues, including a senior St Bernard, a wolf hybrid, multiple cats and a rabbit, that ended up becoming a show champion. Even some of her livestock were rescues. She also had a non rescue Australian Shepherd, who became the "chicken wrangler",
